Beekeeping serves the incredible purposes of pollinating the food we grow and eat, teaching children and youth about the importance of pollinators interactions in the environment, and, of course, producing honey! Our first hive, operated in partnership with Just Food, produced 100lbs in 2005 and continues to serve as a training and demonstration hive for aspiring beekeepers though out the neighborhood. East New York Farms! now works with 6 new neighborhood beekeeping enthusiasts who hope to produce honey and other value-added bee products for themselves and to sell at the farmers market. Check out this stories about our bees: YouTube Videos about NYC Beekeeping Heifer International Bee Day 2009 If you are not an East New York resident and are interesting in beekeeping, please contact the following organizations for more information: Pfeiffer Center |
