Even though it has been hard to believe, spring is here. You know what that means, we need help in both feeding the community and orientating young minds to our farm. East New York schools have the opportunity to tour the UCC Youth Farm which is located on 1/2-acre on Schenck Avenue between New Lots and Livonia Avenues. We grow over 100 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs for sale at our farmers markets. Farm tours will cover our sustainable urban agriculture practices including beekeeping, composting, rainwater collection, and our solar-powered greenhouse. We are happy to adapt tours to curricula that you are covering in your classroom. Tours are available from 10AM-2PM, Tuesday-Friday. Students can be any age as long as the school is located in East New York. All students taking a tour will receive a voucher that can be redeemed for a free cookbook and coupons at our farmers' markets.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE
If you are not in grade school but know of anyone that would like to volunteer at our farm, we're opening up our volunteer Saturdays. That is the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month from April-October. Our farm needs the help, especially if anyone wants to do good work or complete any community service requirements.
